The Smiths Jig has been the most successful Kahawai catching lure in New Zealand for many years. It is recommended to be used with a snap swivel attached directly to the ring of the lure, or to the end of a 1 metre trace. The Smiths Jig is most effective when trolled between 5 and 10 knots.
